MPs are expected to be told of a massive data breach involving the Ministry of Defence – thought to be orchestrated by China.

A massive data breach involving the MoD allegedly targeted service personnel – and although the UK government will not name the country involved, it is thought to be China.

Payroll systems with current service personnel and some veterans were targeted, exposing names and bank details, Sky News has reported.

The system which was targeted is not connected to the main MoD computer systems, and has been taken down and a review of the system launched.

The attack comes as the government has increased warnings about cyber threats from ‘hostile states and third parties’.
