Stephen Mulhern turns red during Josie Gibson romance rumours interrogation
He set the record straight.
Stephen Mulhern looked somewhat flustered when he was asked about romance rumours with Josie Gibson on This Morning today.
Last month Stephen, 47, and Josie, 39, both appeared on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’s big finale, where they were pictured holding hands.
Of course this snap sparked a whole wave of romance rumours with fans getting very excited over the prospect of the two presenters together – but both have denied anything is going on.
Appearing on the This Morning sofa today with fellow TV presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, Stephen got a little hot under the collar when quizzed about this particular snap.
‘Listen, she didn’t turn up to rehearsals. I held her hand and I showed her where to stand. That is it, finito,’ Stephen told the presenting duo, who weren’t going to let him off that easily.
Cat then indicated she didn’t believe him with a sarcastic, ‘Uh huh…’ before pressing, ‘Really..?’ as they giggled away and Stephen squirmed under the pressure, letting out a grin and asking the hosts, somewhat defensively: ‘Why are you doing this to me?’
As This Morning went off air, Stephen shook his head and said, ‘Unbelievable,’ as Cat and Ben continued to tease him.
Last month Josie also addressed the romance rumours, as she insisted the pair were just friends.
‘Stephen? Oh, he’s so lovely. We are really good friends, I really adore him, but there’s no romance in the air,’ she told OK! magazine.
‘But he’s so nice. Every bloke that I come in contact with, the press seems to think that I’m having it off with them. People must think I’m a right goer. I’m not like that.’
Josie added that when she is with someone romantically ‘or to even kiss somebody, I’ve really got to love them’.
‘I’ve really got to really be into them,’ she explained. ‘I can’t give my energy over when I’m not completely into it. You know when you get that magic connection?’
The presenter outlined that for her personally, that ‘comes around like once every seven years or eight years’.
After the photos emerged of Josie and Stephen holding hands, she told MailOnline light-heartedly: ‘I’m in love with Stephen Mulhern. There you go.
‘But story of my life, I don’t think he loves me.’
In 2018, Josie gave birth to her son, Reggie, who she shares with property developer Terry Bond.
Stephen was previously romantically involved with soap star Emma Barton, who is best known for portraying Honey Mitchell in EastEnders.
They began dating in 2008 after they met starring in a pantomime performance of Snow White.
